The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna has handed down a crucial verdict, affirming the victory of Hon. David Umaru Gurara, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate.
This ruling comes in response to the petition filed by the Labour Party’s (APC) House of Representatives Candidate for Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency, Hon. Augustine Danbaba Umar, challenging the outcome of the election conducted on February 25th, 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Justice Chudi Nwankwor, a member of the three-man panel that presided over the case, delivered the judgment on Monday.
The tribunal’s decision was clear: the petition brought forward by Augustine Danbaba Umar lacked merit and was consequently dismissed.
Additionally, a fine of N500,000 was imposed on the petitioner.
Sam Aung SAN, the counsel representing Hon. David Umaru Gurara, expressed satisfaction with the tribunal’s judgment.
He emphasized that the petition was dismissed for its lack of merit, and the fine levied against the petitioner further underscores the strength of their case.
The verdict by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kaduna solidifies Hon. David Umaru Gurara’s victory in the House of Representatives election.
With this decision, the prayers seeking to invalidate his election have been dismissed, bringing clarity to the representation of Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency.
