Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State on Saturday formally presented the staff of office to the newly appointed Chief of Moroa, His Royal Highness Mr. Isiaku Tagwai Sambo, amid cheers and cultural displays in Manchok, the traditional headquarters of the Moroa Chiefdom in Kaura Local Government Area.
Elanzanews recalled that the late Chief Tagwai Sambo Sambo, who was born on December 24, 1936, ascended the throne in 1966 at the age of 30 and ruled for 58 remarkable years until his passing on June 16, 2024.
The colourful ceremony, which drew dignitaries, traditional rulers, government officials, and grassroots leaders from across Southern Kaduna and beyond, marked a significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and promote peaceful coexistence in the region.
Speaking shortly after presenting the staff of office, Governor Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with traditional rulers to foster rural development and peacebuilding.
“Your appointment is more than a title. It is a trust bestowed upon you by your people and a testament to your character and record of community service,” Governor Sani told the new monarch.
“You are succeeding your father, the late Chief Tagwai Sambo, who reigned for 58 remarkable years. He was a leader renowned for peace, patience, and purpose. His memory will continue to live in the hearts of the people of our dear state.”
The governor emphasized the crucial role traditional institutions play in governance, security, and development.
“Our royal fathers are partners in policy, protectors of peace, and promoters of progress. They are the first line of intelligence in tackling insecurity, the moral compass for promoting harmony, and grassroots mobilizers for health, education, and community development,” he said.
“The staff of office is not just a symbol of authority but a reminder of responsibility,” he added. “We believe traditional leaders play a pivotal role in conflict resolution, cultural preservation, and grassroots mobilization for good governance.”
In his acceptance speech, the newly installed chief, His Royal Highness Isiaku Tagwai Sambo, reflected on the peaceful and prosperous reign of his late father.
“He was a humble and visionary leader, a detribalised Nigerian who earned the deep love and admiration of his people,” he said.
“With a heart full of gratitude, I thank His Excellency for approving my appointment as the 5th Chief of Moroa Chiefdom. By the grace of God, I, along with my council of district heads, village heads, and the entire Moroa Chiefdom in Kaura LGA, will work as a united team to fulfill our responsibilities with integrity and the fear of God.”
He appealed to the state government for the rehabilitation of rural roads, the establishment of skills acquisition centres for youth empowerment, and the fencing of Kajim, the only water intake point in Zonkwa that supplies potable water to three local government areas.
He noted that human and animal encroachment is threatening the sustainability of the natural spring, which remains a vital resource for the region.
