Confusion has erupted in the Labour Party camp in Abia State following the decision of Hon. Ceekay Igara to obtain the party’s governorship nomination form from the faction loyal to Julius Abure ahead of the 2027 election.
Igara’s move is already stirring fresh tension within the party as political observers believe it signals an early battle against incumbent governor, Alex Otti.
The development comes amid the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party at the national level, with rival factions laying claim to the party structure.
Supporters of the governorship hopeful were seen in photographs celebrating after the nomination form was secured from the Abure-led faction.
Party loyalists in the state, however, expressed mixed reactions over the move, warning that the internal wrangling could weaken the party’s chances ahead of future elections.
A chieftain of the party, who spoke anonymously, said the development had further deepened uncertainty within the Abia LP fold.
“There is confusion already because many members are still loyal to Governor Otti while others are aligning with the Abure faction. This will definitely create tension,” the source said.
