Yusuf Gagdi, a two-term House of Representatives member, has failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for a third term in the National Assembly.
The lawmaker, who represents the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State, lost Sunday’s party primaries held across the three local government areas in his constituency.
Dr John Tongshinen emerged victorious, polling 29,968 votes to defeat Mr Gagdi, his closest rival, who garnered 5,849 votes.
Daspan Ishaya, chairman of the electoral committee, announced the results in Pankshin.
“By the powers conferred on me as the chairman of this committee, I hereby declare Dr John Tongshinen as the winner of the APC primaries for Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency,” Mr Ishaya said.
He added that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observed the primaries.
Mr Gagdi currently serves as chairman of the House of Representatives standing committee on Navy.
