ABauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has declared that the only solution to Nigeria’s current democratic deadlock is the entrenchment of a genuine multi-party system to free citizens from what he termed “civilian autocratic governance.”

The Governor, also known as Kauran Bauchi, made the remarks on Thursday in Abuja during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of his new political platform, the Allied People’s Movement (APM).

He explained that he chose the APM as a vehicle to sustain Nigeria’s democracy and guarantee a level playing field for ordinary Nigerians.

Governor Mohammed expressed regret over the nation’s prevailing political climate, warning that the ruling party is gradually turning the country into a one-party state.

“I was once Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, with 13 governors in our fold. Today, the reverse is the case. Only Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State remains, and even he is in transit,” the Governor said.

“In the history of Nigeria, we have never witnessed such political calamity as seen in this dispensation. I remain hopeful that Nigerians will rise to defend democracy.”

He added: “For us, the APM is the best platform for Nigerians who genuinely desire democracy to thrive. We are mobilising en masse across Bauchi State and the North-East to ensure victory for the party in the 2027 general elections. The APM is free from infiltration or external interference; we have chosen wisely.”

Earlier, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Maman Dantalle, who also serves as Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Nigeria, said the party welcomes all Nigerians seeking to achieve their political goals through legitimate means.

Dantalle stressed that the essence of democracy lies in multi-party participation and free electoral choice. He congratulated Senator Bala Mohammed for his boldness, describing the quest to rescue democracy as a collective responsibility.
