The Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) says it is working to address the challenges of mail losses and delayed delivery of customers’ goods by upgrading its technology infrastructure and rebuilding their  confidence in the organisation.

The Postmaster-General of the Federation (PMG), Ms Tola Odeyemi gave the assurance in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja, after a strategic management retreat.

NAN reports that the theme for the retreat is: “Empower, Innovate, Shape: Nigerian Post, Optimized for Excellence.”

The event was held as a step toward NIPOST’s reengineering process for enhanced corporate excellence.

The NIPOST boss said the agency was going through reforms that would position it for better service, which included the introduction of an end-to-end tracking system.

He said the service would continue to leverage technological innovation to achieve more efficiency in service delivery to its customers.

According to her, the end-to-end tracking system is a technology, which NIPOST will introduce to address safety concerns about customer’s parcels and mails.

Odeyemi stated that missing mails were usually caused by human errors, which could be reduced through improved technology.

“Yes, we are aware of the complaints about missing mail. We are going to upgrade our technology with an end-to-end tracking system.

“This enables us to know where things go wrong because this is a human system, so you experience some errors.

“We will address the errors through improved technology,” she said.

She added that NIPOST was into meaningful collaborations and partnerships so as to achieve smooth deliveries, financial inclusion and self-service systems.

Odeyemi explained that the plans to leverage partnerships also aimed to make logistics and courier services more affordable.

According to her, this is because it is a sector that is pivotal to Nigeria’s economic development and global integration.

“In Nigeria, the sector holds immense potential to drive sustainable growth, enhance competitiveness, and improve the quality of life for citizens,’’ she said.

She disclosed that the agency would soon implement digital postcodes and Address Verification System (AVS) across the country to boost revenue generation and enhance economic activities. (NAN
