NASARAWA —In its commitment to ensure accurate weather forecasting and rain prediction, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has donated Meteorological Enclosure Station and installation of same at the Nasarawa State Water Board to sensor atmospheric and soil conditions of the state.
The NiMet Director General, Mansur Bako Matazzu, who donated the enclosure station to the State Water Board, said gesture was as results of the contributions and commitment of Ahmad Abubakar Kana led-management team of the board.
Muttazzu said that, Nasarawa State deserved the Meteorological station for the purposes of generating data and to analyse the amount of rainfall in the state.
The NiMet DG, who gave brief of the role and objectives of the agency, stressed that, NiMet was established to maintain mutual relationship with water regulators of each states of the Federation, to enable them setup meteorological stations.
According to him, the deployment and installation of the equipment was in fulfilment of the pledge made to the board, of which same was offered to other States as well.
He further that, the weather station is a collection of instruments and sensors that measure atmospheric and soil conditions.
“Which commonly measured environmental variables that include light, temperature, relative humidity, rain, and wind, while the Soil conditions include soil moisture, soil temperature, and soil bulk electrical conductivity, which can help in predictable and forecasting.
Ahmad Abubakar Kana, the General Manager, Nasarawa State Water Board, expressed the state government gratitude for the establishment of meteorological enclosure station in the state.
Kana announced that, as a state, they have gone ahead to established Hydrology and Hydrogeology department at the board in order to overseen the activities of the meteorological enclosure station, adding that, with the development, they are optimistic of good result.
He, therefore said, the Meteorological station instrument and equipment serve as avenue for providing information, predictable weather forecast and study climate change.
General manager, said that effort in on top geared towards attracting more collaborations with other sister agencies as well as development partners.
