Dr Kashim Yunusa Akor, NPOM, FNIM, has relinquished his senatorial ambition in Kogi East Senatorial District in the interest of party unity and the progress of the district.

In a statement addressed to his supporters, stakeholders, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi East, Dr Akor explained that he joined the race for the party’s senatorial ticket with a firm belief in equity, fairness, and the understanding that the ticket had been zoned to Ankpa Federal Constituency, which comprises Ankpa, Olamaboro, and Omala Local Government Areas.

He noted that his decision was based not only on zoning considerations but also on his proven capacity, competence, and readiness to offer quality representation to the people of Kogi East in the Senate.

Dr Akor observed that despite Ankpa Local Government’s large voting strength and consistent support for the party, it has never produced the Kogi East Senatorial seat, which has repeatedly gone to Olamaboro Local Government. He acknowledged that this pattern had raised expectations among party faithful that justice and political balance would favour Ankpa this time.

However, following wide consultations with political associates, elders, supporters, and key stakeholders across Kogi East, Dr Akor said he had decided to step down in support of Distinguished Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho.

He described the decision as an act of respect for continuity, the strategic advantage of ranking opportunities in the Senate, and the collective need to sustain Kogi East’s influence and relevance at the national level.

“Personal ambition must sometimes give way for broader political stability and unity,” Dr Akor said.

He called on his supporters and well-wishers to remain calm, steadfast, and committed to the ideals of the party, while keeping hope alive that equity and justice would favour Ankpa for the senatorial seat in the near future.

Dr Akor expressed sincere appreciation for the overwhelming support, encouragement, prayers, and solidarity shown to him throughout the journey, and reaffirmed his commitment to the growth, development, and political advancement of Kogi East, as well as the progress of Kogi State and the nation at large.
