A sociopolitical group, Democracy Today, has called on Rivers State Governor, Siminilaye Fubara, to defect to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to secure a second term in office.

The group warned the governor against abandoning his re-election bid, arguing that doing so would undermine democratic principles.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Jamilu Mohammed, the group insisted that no political actor holds a monopoly on democracy, describing politics as a straightforward game of numbers. Mr Mohammed assured Governor Fubara of the readiness of Rivers people to return him to office in 2027, urging him not to disappoint them.

“In politics, you must take bold risks to realise your ambitions. Your performance during the first term, despite significant distractions, stands out,” he said.

“Rivers State belongs to all, not to one segment of society. Abandoning your ambition to run on a platform other than the APC is undemocratic and unacceptable.

“Posterity will judge you if you refuse to pursue your ambition on another platform. History will be made simply by your candidacy, even without victory.”

The group further assured Governor Fubara of widespread support from the people of Rivers, adding that no single individual can dominate Nigeria’s political landscape alone.
