Following a heavy downpour that caused significant damage to the perimeter wall, seven inmates have escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun. The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has now initiated a manhunt to locate them.

In a statement issued on Tuesday from Abuja, NCoS spokesman Abubakar Umar revealed that the Controller General, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered an urgent inquiry into the incident.

The breach occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, resulting in a serious lapse in the prison’s security measures. Umar indicated that the NCoS is collaborating with various security agencies and community leaders to track down the escapees.

“The NCoS is committed to ensuring the swift return of those who have escaped to lawful custody. We are also reinforcing the facility’s security to avert any future incidents,” he stated.

Umar appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with credible information to come forward. He provided the NCoS Response Desk numbers: 07087086005, 09060004598, and 08075050006, and encouraged individuals to report any useful information to the nearest security agency.
