Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, the immediate past Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, has been elected Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Bawa emerged at the APC state congress held at the Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo.
The exercise also produced Mr. Andetarang Irimiya, a former PDP Public Relations Officer, as the new State Secretary of the APC, with the immediate past APC Secretary, Mr. Fedelis Francis, designated to support the new scribe.
Other members of the newly elected executive include Pastor Stephen Othaniel as Deputy State Chairman, Aliyu Mohammad as State Treasurer, Bala Idris as State Financial Secretary, and Fashak Aboki as State Legal Adviser.
The congress was well attended by party faithful and stakeholders and was conducted peacefully.
Gov Agbu Kefas Congratulates New APC Taraba Exco, Urges Unity and Inclusiveness
Governor Agbu Kefas, congratulated the newly elected Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on their emergence.
Dr Agbu Kefas commended the party members for a peaceful and successful congress, describing the emergence of the new leadership as a significant step toward strengthening the party’s structure in the state.
He advised the new executives to discharge their responsibilities with fairness and commitment, urging them to do justice to the party in order to attract more people into the APC family.
The Governor emphasized the need for unity, transparency, and grassroots engagement in building a formidable party.
Dr. Agbu Kefas also assured members that his administration would ensure inclusiveness within the party, stressing that all members would be carried along in its affairs.
He called on party faithful to remain united and supportive of the new leadership as they work to reposition the APC in Taraba State.
The APC State Publicity Secretary, Aaron Artimas, said the process complied with the party’s approved guidelines, which allow for either consensus or indirect modes of electing officials.
He noted that efforts were made to ensure broad consultation among stakeholders before the congress. “The governor held several meetings with party leaders to foster unity and understanding ahead of the exercise,” he said.
The emergence of the new leadership underscores the ongoing political realignments in Taraba State, particularly following the recent defection of prominent PDP figures and lawmakers to the APC.
However, it was gathered that some longstanding APC members who were dissatisfied with the consensus approach did not participate in the congress.
