A wave of jubilation swept through Sokoto, the historic Seat of the Caliphate, following the election of Alhaji Haruna Ajiya as the new State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The festivities erupted on Tuesday as party members celebrated Ajiya’s unanimous election alongside 35 other executives during the APC State Congress.

Hon. Haruna Ajiya, widely regarded for his integrity and popularity, received overwhelming support from delegates, confirming the party’s commitment to selecting capable leaders ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

A Promising Future for the APC

Party loyalist Ibrahim Isa, from Sokoto East Senatorial District, expressed optimism about Ajiya’s leadership: “With Haruna Ajiya at the helm, the APC is poised for victory in the 2027 Presidential, Governorship, and all other elections in Sokoto.” His simplicity and honesty have earned him considerable respect, making him an invaluable asset for the party in the upcoming electoral contests.

In his acceptance speech, Ajiya acknowledged the trust placed in him and pledged to work diligently to fulfil the party’s mandate. “By the special grace of Almighty Allah, we will not let the party down,” he affirmed, setting a tone of determination and accountability.

Executive Committee Announced

The election was overseen by Professor Muftaz Aliyu Musa, Chairman of the APC National Organising Committee, in collaboration with members of the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC). He announced the new executive committee, empowered by Article 20, Section 1 of the party’s constitution, to conduct the state elections.

Acknowledging Past Leadership

In his farewell address, outgoing State APC Chairman Hon. Isa Sadiq Achida expressed satisfaction with the party’s direction. He commended their leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for providing a governor who has consistently delivered on promises. “The visible dividends of democracy across the state are a testament to Sokoto having a working governor,” Achida stated with pride.

Conclusion

As Sokoto embraces this new chapter under Haruna Ajiya’s leadership, the APC is set to strengthen its presence and engage more effectively with the electorate. With a committed team in place and a clear vision for the future, the party is gearing up for what promises to be a transformative electoral season in 2027. The excitement surrounding Ajiya’s election signals a renewed hope for APC supporters, as they anticipate a progressive and impactful governance that prioritises the needs of the people.
