Dr Rabiu Onaolapo Olowo, former Lagos State Commissioner for Finance and current Executive Secretary/CEO of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), will launch the Rabiu Olowo Foundation on 17 June to support indigent Nigerians.
The foundation will focus on health, particularly sickle cell care, and education through community service, aiming to address critical societal needs.
The launch coincides with celebrations marking Dr Olowo’s 40th birthday, featuring an inaugural lecture and a fundraising gala on 14 June.
The event is slated for Transcorp Hilton, Maitama, Abuja, starting at 6:00 pm on 17 June, with prominent keynote speakers addressing attendees.
Speakers include Amb. Prof. Muhammadou M.O. Kah, Gambia’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Mr Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Holdings, and Dr Modupe Elebute-Odunsi, CEO of Marcelle Ruth Cancer Center.
Dr Olowo, a renowned accountant, served as Lagos State Finance Commissioner from 2019 to 2023, appointed at age 34.
In October 2024, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu named him FRC Executive Secretary/CEO at 38, highlighting his rapid rise in public service.
A first-class accounting graduate from Kogi State University, Dr Olowo holds master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Lagos.
The foundation’s mission includes advocating for genotype testing to curb sickle cell disease and supporting education for vulnerable communities.
Dr Olowo, married with children, aims to leverage his platform to drive impactful change through the initiative.
The gala and lecture are expected to draw notable figures, raising funds to kickstart the foundation’s programmes.
