A gubernatorial aspirant in Yobe State, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomai, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship primaries under the All Progressives Congress (APC), while condemning the reported anointment of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) as a consensus candidate by a select group of party leaders.

Senator Bomai, who represents Yobe South, said in a statement that although he remains eligible to seek a third term in the Senate, the future of the state’s youth, women, the masses, and generations yet unborn must guide today’s decisions.

“History and prosperity will favour us if we choose courage over convenience, prioritise the will of the masses over personal desires, and embrace a new direction that reflects the true voice of the people,” he said.

He called for a transparent primary process, stating: “Let us, for once, truly listen to the people from Zone A to Zone B, and from Zone B to Zone C. Let their voices be heard during our primaries. Let their will determine who emerges as our flag bearer. This aligns with the spirit of the amended Electoral Act of 2026, which places greater trust in the people.”

Senator Bomai also condemned the reported anointment of the SSG by a former governor of Yobe State, describing the move as deeply troubling.

“While the sale of nomination forms and expression of interest forms is ongoing, this anointment is not only disturbing but a direct affront to democracy and an unacceptable attempt to override the collective will of the people,” he said.

He added: “No individual, regardless of past office or influence, has the moral or political authority to determine the leadership of millions behind closed doors. Such selfish interest is arbitrary, illegitimate, and a dangerous regression to a system where power is dictated, not earned.”

Senator Bomai reiterated his commitment to the common man of Yobe State, insisting that the state must move forward guided by the will of its people, not the dictates of a few.
