Dr. Sunday Onuoha, a Methodist Bishop, has expressed grave concerns that the ongoing turmoil in Rivers State could escalate into a national crisis if immediate action is not taken.
During a discussion regarding the tensions between Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and his mentor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Bishop Onuoha urged citizens of integrity nationwide to come together to protect democracy in the country.
He called upon seasoned leaders to address the situation directly and to caution those exacerbating the political turmoil in Rivers State, emphasizing that if left unchecked, the consequences could be dire.
Notably, Governor Fubara conducted local government elections in Rivers State without the involvement of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Under his leadership, the Action People’s Party (APP) secured victory in 22 local government areas, while the Action Alliance claimed the final seat.
The lead-up to the elections saw a significant clash between Wike and Fubara over the governance of the state’s political landscape.
