The Awareness Network (NAN) has expressed support for the New Nigerian People’s Party’s call for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party conduct and misappropriation of party campaign funds totaling 2.5 billion naira.
The Chairman of NAN, Salihu Suleima, emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against Senator Kwankwaso, stating that they are not only revealing and embarrassing but also pose a threat to the integrity of political leaders in northern Nigeria.
Suleima highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the matter, as it undermines the principles of good governance and accountability within the political landscape.
“The petition submitted to the EFCC by the National Secretary of the NMPP, Ogini, outlines various accusations against Senator Kwankwaso, including the non-payment of party polling agents and the embezzlement of funds from the sale of party nomination forms.
“Such allegations, if proven true, could tarnish not only the reputation of Senator Kwankwaso but also that of the northern leadership tradition as a whole,” the group warned.
The statement issued by NAN also condemned what it described as Senator Kwankwaso’s arrogance and sense of self-importance, which it believes have led him to engage in activities that are detrimental to the party and its members.
It called for accountability and transparency in political leadership, stressing that no individual, regardless of their stature, should be above the law.
NAN calls on the EFCC to thoroughly investigate the allegations against Senator Kwankwaso and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
“The group urges all political leaders to act with integrity and transparency to rebuild public trust and confidence in the political process.
“As an organization dedicated to upholding transparency and accountability in our political landscape, we believe that the allegations brought forth in the petition are of utmost importance and must be thoroughly investigated.
“The amount in question, totaling 2.5 billion naira, is significant and demands a swift and thorough response from the appropriate authorities.
“Such actions not only reflect poorly on the integrity of political leaders in northern Nigeria but also undermine the trust and confidence of the public in our democratic processes.
“It is disheartening to see a prominent figure like Senator Kwankwaso, who holds a position of influence and responsibility, engage in actions that are not only unethical but potentially criminal.
“The seriousness of these allegations cannot be overstated, and we urge the EFCC to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.”
