Participants from the Air Force War College have embarked on a national study tour to the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto, aimed at deepening their understanding of operational and strategic air power in support of civil authority and national development.

The participants, comprising Course 12/2026, visited the Headquarters of the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA. They affirmed that the tour would serve as a critical link between state-level operations and the strategic deployment of air power to safeguard national security.

Speaking during the event, the Commandant of the Air Force War College, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Gambo Mbaka, highlighted this year’s theme: “State Resources and Air Power: National Development in Northwest Nigeria in Focus.” He noted that the tour explores how air power capabilities can drive security enhancement and socio-economic progress across the region.

AVM Mbaka added that the tour is part of their operational framework, with participants divided into three teams for coordinated field engagements across the northwest.

“Team A is in Sokoto State, Team B went to Kebbi State, and Team C is in Zamfara State. This tour will not only provide first-hand exposure to the security challenges in Northwest Nigeria but also strengthen collaborative efforts with the 8 Division, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, and other security agencies in countering the region’s security threats,” he said.

Noting that the tour bridges theory and practice, AVM Mbaka affirmed that while classroom instruction in operational art and joint planning is crucial, direct engagement with field institutions sharpens professional judgment and operational readiness.

Earlier in his welcome address, the General Officer Commanding the 8 Division and Commander of Joint Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Koughna, expressed satisfaction with the tour. Represented by the Division’s Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Ibrahim Gambari, the GOC reaffirmed the Division’s commitment to inter-agency cooperation and continuous professional development within the armed forces.
