As the FCT undergoes its most ambitious infrastructure transformation in decades, citizens are being called to match government investment with civic duty—or watch the gains crumble.

The sweeping transformation reshaping the Federal Capital Territory stands as a testament to decisive leadership. Under Barrister Nyesom Wike, the FCT has witnessed an unprecedented surge in infrastructure delivery—roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, water schemes, and public buildings rising across the cityscape.

Yet development, however bold, cannot endure without citizen collaboration. Sustainable progress demands a partnership, not spectatorship.

The Price of Progress

Infrastructure carries a perpetual cost. Roads require resurfacing, water networks demand upgrades, waste systems need funding, and public facilities cry out for constant repair. These burdens cannot fall to government alone—not when revenue shortfalls threaten every new project.

Every resident bears a civic duty: settle taxes, water levies, waste charges, and statutory fees without delay. These are not mere obligations but investments in Abuja’s future. Every naira contributed sustains existing assets and finances tomorrow’s developments.

Protect What We Build

Beyond payment, citizens must safeguard public assets. Vandalism, illegal dumping, theft of manhole covers, destruction of streetlights, and abuse of utilities sabotage the very projects meant to serve communities. These facilities belong to all—treat them accordingly.

Residents must also observe planning laws, maintain clean surroundings, report sabotage, and join local sanitation efforts. A disciplined, orderly capital attracts investment, generates employment, and elevates living standards for everyone.

A Shared Future

The current infrastructure drive offers a moment for residents to recommit to civic responsibility. Government’s investment should inspire greater compliance—with taxes, utility bills, environmental rules, and the protection of shared property.

Abuja cannot be built by government alone. It requires a responsive administration and responsible citizens working in tandem. As the FCT evolves into a world-class capital, every individual has a role: pay promptly, protect public goods, and contribute constructively.

A prosperous, sustainable Federal Capital Territory is a collective enterprise. When government fulfils its pledges and citizens honour their duties, all benefit—and generations yet unborn inherit a capital worthy of national pride.
