“In our quest to actualise these ideals, we sought to focus attention on various core areas which we perceive will have the most positively profound impact on members.

“Among the areas that attracted our attention were technology and the digitisation process, harmonisation of ideas, empowerment of members and institutionalisation of the Cooperative leadership.”

He said that as the socioeconomic challenges of the global landscape manifests its toll on Nigeria’s domestic society, the welfare and wellbeing of our members would be uppermost in our minds.

“Thus, given the circumstances of today’s reality, economic wellbeing of members becomes the over-arching factor that affects the individual, family and their respective households.

“Our ultimate desire is to ensure that all our members keep their heads above water in every ramification.

“In so doing, we have initiated various novel facilities and initiatives which we feel will cater to the direct and immediate needs of our members and we are glad to say that these have elicited very warm reception.”

On her part, the Secretary of the Joint Tax Board, Nana-Aisha Obomeghie felicitated with the society.

She said that remarkable achievements are recorded where there was a strong collaboration among people of like minds who are determined to improve their livelihood and well-being.

“This is the pedestal upon which the cooperative was established.

“I wish to charge all of you to continue to adhere to the general tenets and principles of cooperatives which are anchored primarily on collective responsibility and support for a greater good.

“Also, I assure you of the determination of the JTB management to collaborate with any genuine effort which is focused on creating a conducive and peaceful atmosphere for progress.”

One of the awardees, Chief (Sir) Oseni Elamah mni, former Executive Secretary of the Joint Tax Board, who is also the promoter and Initiator of JTB Cooperative Society, appreciated the society for the award.

He said that cooperative societies were aimed at supporting members who have financial challenges.

“It is our little way of giving back to society. It is better to give back to society than to amass wealth for oneself alone.

“Wealth will mean nothing if not used to serve humanity, and we have to do what is necessary to help humanity,” he said.

Highlights of the event was cutting of cake and cultural performances by various ethnic groups. The JTB Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society is a non-discriminatory body, and membership is open to all members of the public.
