Unknown gunmen have reportedly assassinated Zaki Sylvester Terfa Suleagbough, the Clan Head of Mbatyula community in Chanchanji Ward, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

A source who pleaded anonymity while speaking with Taraba Dailygraph by telephone said the attackers stormed the community in the early hours of Sunday and opened fire sporadically.

According to the source, the gunmen allegedly targeted the residence of the traditional leader before shooting him, resulting in his death.

The incident has reportedly caused tension and fear among residents, with community members said to be concerned about their safety following the attack.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, while the identities and whereabouts of the attackers were not immediately known as of the time of filing this report.

The latest incident adds to concerns over insecurity in parts of southern Taraba, particularly communities in Takum and surrounding areas that have experienced attacks and communal tensions in the past.
