Turbanned at 40: Senator’s Son Bags Yariman Title

The 40-year-old son of Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (former governor of Sokoto State), Alhaji Mahdi Aliyu Wamakko, has been turbanned as the Yariman Wamakko in Sokoto State.

Six other dignitaries were also honoured with traditional titles during the same ceremony:

· Alhaji Sadat Mohammad – Shattiman Wamakko
· Alhaji Mika’ilu Bello – Dan’Iya Wamakko
· Alhaji Mukthar Jibrin Wamakko – Mainan Wamakko
· Alhaji Muhammad Sani Audu Wamakko – Tafidan Wamakko
· Habibu Dan Galadima – Dan Majen Wamakko

Leaders Urge Honourees to Serve with Integrity

In his welcome address, the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Hon. Umar Ahmad Dundaye, thanked Almighty Allah for the occasion and prayed for wisdom among the newly titled chiefs to contribute meaningfully to community and humanity.

The State Minister of Works, Bello Goronyo, noted that the large turnout at the event affirmed the honourees’ proven integrity. Echoing the sentiment, Ambassador Abubakar Shehu Wurno described the titles as a stepping stone to greater responsibility.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Mohammed Bello Sifawa, commended the District Head of Wamakko (Baraden Wamakko), Alhaji Ahmed Barade, for finding the recipients worthy of the honour. The governor urged them to live above board, stressing that their recognition is a call to greater service.

Political Elites Grace Colourful Cultural Display

Dignitaries at the event included:

· Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko (APC leader and Senator for Sokoto North)
· Alhaji Haruna Adiya (Sokoto State APC Chairman)
· Alhaji Umarun Kwabo (Jarman Sokoto)
· Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi (Minister of Labour and Productivity)
· Hon. Ahmed Kalambaina (Member, House of Representatives, Wamakko/Kware federal constituency)
· Several national and state lawmakers, local government chairmen, youth and women groups.

The vibrant ceremony featured traditional cultural displays, including the Dubar, horse play, camel play, traditional wrestling, boxing, and blacksmithing demonstrations.
