Tehran vows retaliation as Trump threatens fresh strikes

Iran has issued a stark warning that its armed forces stand ready to deliver a decisive response to any renewed military action by the United States, following President Donald Trump’s threat to resume strikes unless Tehran curbs its regional allies.

The exchange has sharply escalated tensions between the two longstanding adversaries. Mr Trump’s latest remarks, in which he linked military action to Iran’s perceived support for Hezbollah and other proxy groups, drew an immediate rebuttal from Iranian officials, who reaffirmed that the country’s military remains fully prepared for all contingencies. The warning continues a series of forceful statements from Tehran in recent months, underscoring its commitment to retaliate against any aggression.

The escalating rhetoric has cast a shadow over ongoing diplomatic efforts in Switzerland, where mediators have been facilitating high-level talks between Washington and Tehran on issues including Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security. Iranian negotiators are reported to have suspended their participation in protest, arguing that threats of military force undermine the very foundation of constructive dialogue.

The standoff comes amid broader instability across the Middle East, compounded by tensions involving Hezbollah in Lebanon and persistent concerns over the security of shipping lanes through the Strait of Hormuz—a critical artery for global oil supplies. The international community now watches closely as both sides weigh their next moves in an increasingly volatile standoff.
