The Central Planning Committee (CPC) for organising the Southern Kaduna Festival (SKFEST) has begun preparations for the second edition of the fiesta, according to its Chairman, Mr Ferguson Bobai.
Bobai said the festival, code-named “SKFEST 2024” is aimed at showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the different tribes and people that inhabit the geographical area popularly known and referred to as Southern Kaduna.
The chairman of the committee informed newsmen in a statement on Friday that the theme of the festival, scheduled to hold from Dec. 19 to Dec. 21 in Kafanchan, is “Preserving Heritage, Igniting Progress.”
According to him, the festival is further aimed at celebrating, preserving, and enhancing the rich cultural heritage of Southern Kaduna, while igniting progress through various cultural entertainment and developmental activities.
“The theme for the 2024 edition was chosen following the successes recorded during the maiden edition in 2023, when a huge number of participants from across Nigeria and beyond attended.
“The festival would be creating an impressive and engaging experience for both local participants and visitors from across the globe.
“The festival, hopefully, will spur the need to search for economic prosperity, social integration, development as well as showcase and celebrate the rich unique cultures of the diverse people of the region,” he said.
Bobai explained that SKFEST was conceived in 2023 to revitalise the cultural heritage of Southern Kaduna people and celebrate their unity in diversity while showcasing their rich cultural heritage.
He stated that the festival is also designed to foster cross-cultural and inter-generational engagement between the older and younger generations of Southern Kaduna extraction.
Bobai informed newsmen that the main events will feature exhibition of traditional arts, cuisine fair, beauty pageant, and fashion show, live music concerts, colloquium, football tournament, marathon race, as well as traditional wrestling and boxing.
He assured stakeholders in a greater Southern Kaduna that the festival promises to be the best cross-cultural festival to be organised north of the Niger. (NAN
