A Sokoto State High Court has sentenced three individuals—including a Nigerien national—to death by hanging for terrorism and arms trafficking.

Justice Nuraddeen Muhammed Bello, presiding over High Court 23, delivered the ruling in case SS/45c/2026, finding Yusuf Muhammad (alias Sallau), Nigerien Jabbi Alhaji Yalle, and Kabiru Muhammad guilty on all counts.

The judge held that the prosecution had established their involvement in cross-border criminal activities beyond reasonable doubt, and ordered the forfeiture of all monetary exhibits recovered from the convicts to the Federal Government.

The trio were apprehended on 13 June 2025 by the Department of State Services (DSS) Counter Terrorism Unit in connection with arms trafficking and terrorism offences.

In reaction to the judgment, residents of Sokoto hailed the DSS and urged all security agencies and judicial authorities to maintain the momentum in tackling organised cross-border criminality. They also called for expedited handling of such cases to reinforce deterrence and public confidence in the justice system.
