The Spokesperson for the Rivers State House of Assembly, Enemi George, has dismissed claims that the ongoing impeachment motion against Governor Siminalayi Fubara is connected to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Mixed reactions continue to surround the impeachment proceedings initiated on Thursday, with some suggesting that Wike may be at the heart of it.
In an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, George stressed that the Rivers lawmakers were acting strictly within constitutional provisions and not under the influence of any political figure.
When asked if Wike had a role in the impeachment motion, the assembly spokesperson stated that conflating politics with constitutional responsibilities is perilous.
“This is akin to pouring oil into water; those two don’t mix unless boiled. The FCT minister is a politician. If we start to intertwine politics and constitutional matters, we will invite trouble.
“I am not a party chief, but a spokesperson for the Rivers State House of Assembly.
“Personally, I am politically aligned with the FCT minister, but it is insulting to reduce the activities of an institution established by the Constitution to mere politics or the actions of an individual,” George remarked.
