The house of representatives ad hoc committee investigating the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has asked Tunji Disu, inspector-general of Police (IGP), to produce Adeniyi Adeyemi for questioning.

The committee issued the directive during its sitting on Monday when Bashir Abdullahi, an assistant inspector-general of police, appeared before the panel to speak on the PFIPC fiasco.

Yusuf Gagdi, chairman of the committee, said Adeyemi should appear before the panel on Wednesday.

Gagdi said the committee deemed Adeyemi’s appearance necessary because of the panel’s discoveries during investigations so far.

The panel, which is probing the N1.3 billion appropriated to the council in the 2026 budget, has quizzed some heads of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), including the head of civil service of the federation, the budget office, and the accountant-general of the federation.

“The committee hereby resolves that the inspector-general of police kindly present Mr Adeniyi Adeyemi on Wednesday by 12 noon,” he said.

“In view of the fact that patriotic individuals’ names have been featured differently in this investigation, and in view of the fact that agencies have been mentioned, documents have been said to be mutilated and forged,” he said.

Femi Gbajabiamila, chief of staff to President Bola Tinubu, is at the centre of the PFIPC controversy.

Adeyemi, the man accused of operating the agency, claimed the chief of staff issued his appointment letter — an allegation Gbajabiamila has denied.

The presidency had said the appointment letter bearing Gbajabiamila’s signature was forged, while the chief of staff had earlier petitioned security agencies over the matter.

Adeyemi was arrested on July 14 by operatives of the police intelligence response team (IRT) in Osun state.
