In a heart-wrenching incident in Anambra State, local police successfully intervened to rescue a young man from a suicide attempt. The individual, identified as 27-year-old Alozie John from Isielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, faced overwhelming financial pressure due to a debt of approximately N1.2 million.

According to a statement released by Superintendent of Police Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, John resided in the Umunnachi area of Dunukofia LGA, where he ran a poultry business. His financial struggles stemmed from an inability to repay a significant debt owed to a supplier of poultry products.

In a moment of despair, John attempted to take his life by ingesting harmful chemicals. However, after consuming the poison, he experienced distress and reconsidered his drastic decision. In a courageous move, he reached out for help through a WhatsApp message to the police, alerting them to his critical situation.

Upon receiving the urgent message, Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam quickly mobilized a team of officers who promptly located John and transported him to a nearby hospital for immediate medical care.

The police have since been in contact with John’s mother, who is actively collaborating with authorities to ensure her son’s recovery and well-being during this challenging time. The police command remains committed to supporting John as he receives the necessary treatment and evaluation.

This incident highlights the importance of mental health support and the critical role of community resources in preventing such tragedies.
