The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has apprehended six individuals believed to be part of a “one chance” robbery syndicate.
During the operation, one suspect succumbed to injuries, while a victim was rescued, and the gang’s vehicle was recovered.
In a statement released on Saturday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, reported that the arrests occurred on August 6, 2025, as operatives from the Anti-One Chance Unit were conducting routine patrols in the FCT and surrounding areas.
Adeh detailed that officers witnessed a victim, identified as Angel Patrick, being forcibly ejected from a moving vehicle on the Kubwa Expressway around 8:30 AM. One team quickly intervened to rescue her and transported her to Zankwochi Hospital in Mabushi, while another team pursued the suspects toward the Aso area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
The statement noted, “In an ongoing effort to combat armed robbery ‘one chance’ syndicates within the Federal Capital Territory, operatives from the FCT Police Command’s Anti-One Chance Unit successfully arrested six suspects, neutralized one, rescued a victim, and recovered their operational vehicle.
On August 6, 2025, at approximately 8:30 AM, during a routine patrol with two vehicles, officers observed a victim, later confirmed as Angel Patrick, being forced out of a moving vehicle along Kubwa Expressway. A swift response ensued, with one team rescuing the victim and taking her to Zankwochi Hospital for immediate medical assistance, while the second team, consisting of undercover officers, pursued the fleeing suspects to the Aso area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.”
During the pursuit, a gun battle erupted, leading to the apprehension of five suspects: Jude Simon, Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola, all from Mpape.
Adeh stated that one suspect was fatally wounded during the exchange and was later pronounced dead at Asokoro General Hospital.
“Following a heated chase and intense gunfire, the suspects were apprehended. Five individuals were arrested at the scene: Jude Simon, Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola, all males from Mpape who had been on the Command’s wanted list. Their operational vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, was also seized. One suspect was neutralized during the exchange and confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.”
Further investigations revealed that one suspect, John Simon, had previously been arrested in December 2024, charged, and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre for similar offenses.
Adeh confirmed that the recovered operational vehicle included six ATM cards, a jackknife, ₦115,000 in cash, and various items believed to belong to prior victims.
“Items recovered from the suspects include: one vehicle, six ATM cards suspected to belong to previous victims, one jackknife, a cash sum of ₦115,000, and other personal belongings presumed to be from past victims.”
The suspects reportedly confessed to being involved in “one chance” operations for several years.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism, reiterating the Command’s commitment to eradicating criminal activities in the FCT. He also advised residents to remain vigilant while boarding vehicles and to utilize only licensed motor parks.
