The ancient town of Ogwashi-Uku in Delta State is gearing up to host the 14th edition of its famous dance carnival, a major cultural showcase that has become a highlight of the Christmas season in the South-South.

Scheduled for Thursday, December 25, 2025, the carnival will kick off at 2 p.m. and run into the evening, drawing indigenes, residents, and visitors to the festive hub of Ogwashi-Uku.

The Convener of Ogwashi-Uku Carnival Anthonia Oguah describe the event as “the most explosive cultural celebration in Delta during the Yuletide,” bringing together families and friends in an atmosphere of music, dance, and creativity. One of the highlights of this year’s edition will be the carnival costume competition, where participants are encouraged to appear in colourful, imaginative outfits for a chance to win prizes.

Beyond the entertainment, the Ogwashi-Uku Carnival has been positioned as a platform for cultural diplomacy and community branding. With the theme “Promoting the Image of Ogwashi-Uku Through Culture and Dance,” organisers say the event continues to spotlight the town’s heritage while fostering unity and tourism.

“Over the years, the carnival has grown into a major cultural movement in Delta. It is not just a parade of costumes and dance, but an opportunity to project the vibrancy of our people,” said one of the organisers.

Now in its 14th year, the carnival has steadily drawn larger audiences, boosting local businesses and giving young people a creative outlet during the festive season.

For sponsorship and advert placement, interested stakeholders are encouraged to contact the carnival committee via Anthonia Oguah (08033119176) or Barrister Uche Nwulu (08034680900).

Organisers insist this year’s edition will be the biggest yet, as Ogwashi-Uku once again welcomes the world to experience its cultural heartbeat.
