The Nigerian Youths for Atiku (NYFA) has urged its members across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) without delay.
As reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement, spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar alongside certain dissatisfied APC leaders, has adopted the ADC as their platform to contest against President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Prof. Gold Emmanuel, NYFA’s Founder and President, communicated this directive through a statement from the group’s Director-General, Dare Dada, in Lagos on Thursday, reinforcing that NYFA is a vital component of Abubakar’s political structure.
This directive follows Abubakar’s endorsement of the ADC after his candidacy with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 Presidential elections. The decision emerged from an urgent meeting convened in Lagos.
Emmanuel emphasised, “NYFA members must promptly join the ADC. It is essential for the ADC to collaborate with the majority.” She noted the prevailing discontent among Nigerians with the APC administration and their demand for change.
Additionally, she condemned the government’s policies, such as rising interest rates, subsidy eliminations, and increased electricity tariffs, expressing confidence that Abubakar and other ADC leaders would effect positive change in 2027.
Reiterating NYFA’s unwavering support for Abubakar, Emmanuel underscored his vision for restructuring Nigeria into a productive economic federation and reforming the electoral system to enhance transparency and accountability.
Recently, ex-Senate President David Mark and former Governor Rauf Aregbesola were named ADC Interim Chairman and Secretary, respectively, with Mark officially launching the ADC as the political platform for the Coalition.
Prominent opposition leaders including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi were among the attendees at the event.
