In a significant operation, the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI (AC OPHK) successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on military personnel in Borno State, resulting in the elimination of numerous fighters and the destruction of a gun truck.
On November 25, 2024, two targeted airstrikes executed during related operations delivered a heavy blow to terrorist factions in Kukawa, Borno State.
Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), reported that the initial wave of airstrikes effectively neutralized several combatants and destroyed a gun truck. The second wave provided vital close air support to ground troops facing an onslaught.
The first operation was initiated following credible intelligence pinpointing the location of a terrorist gun truck approximately five kilometers west of Kukawa. “NAF fighter jets promptly engaged the target with precision, annihilating the gun truck and significantly impairing the terrorists’ operational capabilities,” Akinboyewa stated.
In response to a distress signal from ground forces in Kukawa, who were under severe attack from terrorists on motorcycles, the NAF air assets acted swiftly. “Our air support engaged the terrorists at various intervals, neutralizing many of them and allowing ground troops to recover over 20 abandoned motorcycles,” he added.
Following the successful airstrikes, ground forces capitalized on the momentum, actively pursuing the wounded and retreating terrorists.
Akinboyewa reiterated the NAF’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security across the nation, emphasizing that they will continue to provide robust air support to ground forces and other security agencies in their efforts to combat terrorism.
