The National Director of Employment has commenced the second phase of it’s Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI 2) with the target of training 1074 unskilled and unemployed youths in Sokoto State, acting State Coordinator of NDE, Abubakar Lukman has said.
Lukman, who spoke in Sokoto on behalf of the Director General of NDE, Silas Agara said in 2024, the Directorate made significant strides in fulfilling its mandate of employment generation in Nigeria by aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Agara, the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda among other objectives, emphasizes economic growth, job creation and poverty alleviation.
Continuing, Agara said the NDE with active support of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment successfully trained 32,692 unskilled and unemployed Nigerians in demand driven skills across the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and
5,532 beneficiaries resettled with loans and starter packs while linkages to credit granting institutions for those that could not be accommodated under the soft loan scheme is ongoing”.
Giving insights into the second phase of the RHEI, Lukman NDE will train 41,307 persons in over 30 different skills set which range from vocational, entrepreneurial, agricultural, ICT and activities in the public works sector.
“The trainees were drawn from the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). A minimum of 4 persons were drawn from each of the 8,809 electoral wards in Nigeria to further ensure inclusivity.
“Furthermore, a total number of 14,457 beneficiaries are expected to be resettled with starter packs to help them establish themselves in their chosen fields”, NDE’s Director General Silas Agara assured.
Earlier in his welcome address, the NDE Head of Department of Vocational Skills (VSD) in Sokoto, Abubakar Idris Usman appealed to beneficiaries to take the oppurtunity seriously, adding they were selected amongst many.
Thanking NDE onbehalf of the 2nd phase beneciaries in Sokoto, Zainab Mohammed and Abdullahi Shua’ibu promised to be good ambassadors of their respective families, state and the RHEI of President Bila Ahmed Tinubu.
