The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has officially expelled Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the House of Representatives member for the Kiru/Bebeji constituency. The party cited anti-party activities and Jibrin’s failure to fulfill his financial commitments as reasons for this decision.

Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, the Chairman of NNPP in Kano, announced the expulsion during a press briefing on Saturday. He stated that the action was taken in response to Jibrin’s ongoing media criticisms of the party and its leadership.

This announcement follows Jibrin’s recent comments suggesting that his departure from the party should not be surprising, asserting his independence in making political choices.

In his reaction, Dungurawa characterized Jibrin as a “weak politician,” claiming that his electoral success was primarily due to the support of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP, rather than his own political prowess. “If he had genuine political strength, he would have won his election under the APC, but he did not. It was only after joining NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he secured his position as a House of Representatives member. Now, he is deluding himself into thinking he is powerful,” Dungurawa stated.

He further explained that a reconciliation committee was previously established to engage with Jibrin following his interview with Channels Television. However, subsequent media appearances led the party to conclude that he had overstepped his bounds. “Rather than seek dialogue, he chose to act against our interests, openly pledging his loyalty outside the party. This is why we have expelled him; he no longer contributes any value,” the chairman added.

Dungurawa also accused Jibrin of neglecting his mandatory party dues, announcing that the NNPP intends to pursue legal action to reclaim the owed funds. “We will take him to court to recover what he owes the party. It is a constitutional obligation for every member to pay dues, yet he has consistently failed to comply,” he emphasized.

Regarding speculation that Jibrin might return to the APC, Dungurawa expressed confidence that such a move would not undermine the strength of the NNPP, asserting that “politics is about groups and coalitions,” with the Kwankwasiyya movement firmly supporting its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
