The National President, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Dr Hajia Samira Jibrin in her opening speech said “Education is not a solitary endeavour. It thrives on a strong partnership between parents, educators, communities and the government.
The NAPPS National President who was represented by the Nasarawa State NAPPS, Financial Secretary, Mrs Yemisi.
Added “We should commit ourselves to the noble cause of empowering the Nigerian child for the future by enabling them to develop critical thinking, problem solving, higher order thinking, effective communication, collaboration and entrepreneurial abilities that will allow them to create their own opportunities and impact their world positively”.
The highlight of the day was the attendance of the chapter chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Mohammed Abbaisa, who delivered a stirring speech that resonated deeply with the audience.
Addressing the assembled children, parents, and educators, Hon. Abbaisa highlighted the immense potential of the current generation, often referred to as Generation Z, to leverage technological advancements for their growth and development.
He urged the children to take full advantage of these opportunities, saying, “You are growing up in a time where technology can be your greatest ally. Use it wisely to learn, create, and innovate.”
Hon. Abbaisa also addressed parents, school owners, and teachers, stressing the importance of building strong, supportive relationships with children. “It is imperative that we strive to be their best friends and confidants. Create a home where they feel safe to share their thoughts, their fears, and their mistakes. It is within the warmth of your guidance that they will learn the most valuable lessons,” he advised, underscoring the role of a nurturing environment in child development.
In addition to his focus on personal relationships, Hon. Abbaisa made a compelling call to the government for greater support of the private education sector.
He pointed out the challenges faced by private schools, particularly the heavy burden of multiple taxation, which complicates their operations. “The current taxation regime is stifling the potential of private schools. We need the government to reduce these taxes and invest in the training of teachers and the development of educational infrastructure,” he asserted.
Hon. Abbaisa emphasized that private schools are critical to national development and deserve more concerted support from the government. “As the nurturers of national development, it’s high time the government gives more focused support to private schools in Nigeria. Our future depends on the quality of education we provide today,” he stated.
The day’s celebrations were filled with joy and excitement as children from various schools showcased their talents through performances, games, and creative displays. The children’s enthusiasm was palpable as they participated in activities designed to celebrate their day and highlight their potential.
Many children took the opportunity to voice their aspirations and called on the government to improve educational infrastructure. “We want to compete with our counterparts from advanced nations. We need better facilities and more opportunities to learn and grow,” they said.
The event was not just a celebration but a powerful reminder of the essential role education plays in shaping the future of the nation. It highlighted the collective responsibility of parents, educators, and the government to create an environment where children can thrive.
As the day drew to a close, the message was clear: the future of Nigeria lies in the hands of its children, and it is the duty of all stakeholders to ensure they have the support and resources they need to succeed.
The NAPPS Karshi Chapter’s celebration of World Children’s Day 2024 was a resounding success, filled with hope, joy, and a call to action for a better future for all Nigerian children.

Marry Only One Wife, Zazzau Emir Tells Northerners

… Raises concern over polygamy negative impact
… Says some men has over 50 children, can’t take care of them
By Abubakar Yunusa
The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, has advised men facing financial difficulties to limit themselves to one wife in order to better provide for and nurture responsible families.
He expressed concern over the negative impact of polygamy, noting that many family leaders are failing to fulfil their obligations.
During his address at the conclusion of the 30th annual Ramadan lecture of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), the Emir emphasised that while Islam permits men to marry more than one woman, this right does not necessarily mean that every man is financially capable of supporting multiple families.
He shared an example from his palace, where 192 families reside, with some men having more than 50 children. “How can someone adequately care for such a large number of dependents?” he questioned.
The Emir also called for changes in the Islamiyya education system to better incorporate teachings on the rights of girls. He believes this shift could lead to more progressive communities.
Furthermore, he criticised the judiciary for exacerbating societal issues, pointing to the case of a young woman sentenced to two years in prison over a small debt of N6,000. “When I visited the prison, I had only N200,000, yet I was able to secure the release of eight people,” he recounted.
The Emir noted that the palace frequently relies on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) methods to address challenges in areas such as marriage, inheritance, and land disputes, which he described as major sources of family strife.
In her remarks, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, called on the Ulama to encourage men to take greater responsibility in their homes.
She emphasised that many responsibilities have shifted to women, and it’s time for men to step up.
Meanwhile, Hajiya Nafisa Isah, the Amirah of FOMWAN Kaduna State, announced that the organisation is working on establishing a fully operational skills acquisition centre to empower both women and youth.
