Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State on Wednesday inaugurated
four dialysis machines, chairs and other equipment procured for the state’s Specialists Hospital.
Mohammed said during the inauguration in Bauchi that the machines were among the major achievements of his administration to enhance healthcare services and upgrade the hospital to centre of excellence.
He said that the hospital suffered so much theft, mismanagement, truancy by medical officers and abuse of authority in the past.
He added that “in the past, equipment were taken away, women were dying on their beds due improper care.”
According to him, his administration will not condone negligence to duty and misuse of equipment.
He warned that “from today, I will be having weekly meeting with officials, including the commissioner for health and managers of our health institutions.”
Mohammed further said that the Radiology Department of the hospital has digital X-ray machines, a mobile X-ray machine, two 4D ultrasound machines, a digital mammography machine, a upper and lower endoscopic machine.
“We have also installed four dialysis chairs, one water treatment plant, one oxygen concentrator, 500 consumable sessions,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof. Abdulkareem Garba, said the equipment would help the people of Bauchi and other states.
The CMD, who pledged to ensure that the equipment were maintained, added that the Radiology Department had been attracting patients from neighbouring states.
