The Kwara House of Assembly has aligned with the State Government’s decision to award the contract of rehabilitation of Kwara Hotels to a competent contractor.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this is as against the concession to Crystal Group of Companies.

This development was part of the resolutions of the House after considering a Matter of General Public Importance moved by the House Leader, Magaji Oba-Abdulkadir (APC/Ilorin Central), during Tuesday’s plenary.

Oba-Abdulkadir stated that there was no concession agreement signed between the Kwara Government and Crystal Group of Companies to execute the project.

He contended that any claim to the existence of a formal agreement on the concessioning was absolutely false and should therefore be disregarded.

Other lawmakers in their submission were unanimous that the State Government should proceed on awarding the rehabilitation of Kwara Hotels to a competent contractor for effective management.

The Speaker, Mr Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, then pointed out that Tuesday’s resolution superceded the earlier decision of the House on the concessioning of Kwara Hotels to Crystal Group of Companies.

Danladi-Salihu urged Crystal Group of Companies to discontinue any “act of blackmail” capable of misleading the general public.

Also, a bill to amend the Kwara State Local Government Electoral Law was passed after being read for the third time.

The Executive Bill was for the ”Law to Amend the Kwara State Local Government Electoral Law, To change the number of days for Notice of Election and other Related Matters”.

The bill, among other things, seeks to extend the period for the conduct of local government elections in the state from 90 days to 360 days.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Ahmed Kareem, to forward the clean copy of bill for the state governor’s approval.(NAN)
