A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governorship candidate in Taraba State, Chief David Sabo Kente, has turned down an offer from supporters to purchase his 2027 governorship nomination form.
The proposal came during a stakeholders’ meeting in Wukari, where more than 300 delegates across the 16 local government areas endorsed Kente and pledged to bankroll his bid. However, he clarified that the gathering was intended to assess the state’s political landscape and review governance, not to launch a campaign.
Attendees voiced dissatisfaction with Governor Agbu Kefas’s administration, accusing it of sidelining longstanding APC members and excluding them from key appointments. They warned that continued neglect could push loyalists to back alternative candidates.
In response, Kente thanked his supporters for their confidence but stressed the need to respect Taraba’s zoning arrangement. He argued that the Southern zone, which currently holds the governorship seat, should be allowed to complete its tenure before any power shift.
He also revealed that he is undertaking wider consultations before deciding his political future, and urged party members to focus on grassroots mobilisation and ongoing voter registration. Kente called for unity and fairness among the state’s political blocs, while reaffirming his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s development agenda.
Despite mounting pressure from various groups, Kente maintained that his final decision will be guided by broad consultations and the overall interest of Taraba State.
