A staff member of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bagudu Mohammed Waziri, has pledged to donate N10,000 each month to both the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and the Armed Forces Trust Fund for the remainder of his service year.

In a letter dated 15 April 2026 addressed to the Accountant General of the Federation, Waziri said his decision follows President Bola Tinubu’s example of donating his entire salary to support the armed forces.

“I humbly write to notify you of my decision to forthwith make a monthly contribution of ten thousand naira (N10,000.00) each to the Nigerian Police Trust Fund and the Armed Forces Trust Fund respectively from my salary until the day I retire from service,” the letter read in part.

The donation, he explained, was inspired by the President’s commitment to “support our men in uniform who risk their lives every day to ensure our peace, safety, and the territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Waziri also appealed to other patriotic citizens to make similar modest sacrifices. “I believe that if, as patriotic citizens, we can add our small contributions in this manner, we would indeed be able to create a mighty ocean that bridges the funding gaps faced by these critical government agencies,” he added.

Copies of the letter were sent to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Inspector-General of Police. Waziri has requested relevant account details to enable the SEC’s finance department to make deductions at source before his monthly salary is paid.
