The Kaduna State government says it plans to graduate 32,000 learners annually through the newly established Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development.

The commissioner for information, Ahmed Maiyaki, stated this in Kaduna on Friday.

He said the institute, inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in June, has campuses in Rigachikun, Soba, and Samaru Kataf.

Mr Maiyaki said the campuses were equipped with modern facilities to provide practical and globally relevant skills training.

He said learners could enrol in 14 trade areas accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The trades include masonry, plumbing, welding, carpentry, tiling, aluminium fabrication, electrical installation, refrigeration and air conditioning, solar installation, mechatronics, computer hardware repairs, catering, hospitality, and fashion design.

The commissioner said the programmes were aligned with the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework, with 80 per cent of the training being practical.

He said enrolment was open year-round with morning and afternoon sessions to expand access.

The provost of the institute, Husaini Muhammad, said the training would produce workplace-ready graduates.

He said the institute had full NBTE accreditation and was part of the federal government’s TVET initiative.

Mr Muhammad said the first batch of 2,000 learners had commenced training, with a target of 16,000 graduates in the first phase before reaching 32,000 yearly.

Applications are ongoing on the institute’s portal: https://kivtsd.edu.ng.
