The Kano State Road Traffic Agency has handed over three trucks conveying alcoholic drinks to the Kano State Hisbah Board for destruction.
The managing director of KAROTA, Faisal Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
He said, “The trucks, loaded with 410 cartons and 4,920 bottles of beer, were intercepted by KAROTA operatives during a night patrol along major streets within the Kano metropolis.
“The consignments were being transported for delivery to different locations in the city. The interception was in line with KAROTA’s mandate to identify and report suspicious movements.”
Mr Mahmud further explained that the agency would sustain its surveillance efforts to prevent the circulation of intoxicants considered harmful to public health.
Receiving the seized trucks, the commander-general of the Hisbah board, Aminu Daurawa, commended the KAROTA personnel for their vigilance and assured that due process would be followed before destroying the seized items.
Mr Daurawa was represented by the head of the intoxicants unit, chief superintendent of Hisbah, Sani Nasidi.
He said that Hisbah would continue to collaborate with KAROTA to curb the smuggling of prohibited goods into Kano State.
Mr Daurawa prayed for God’s reward for the officers involved in the operation.
