A female vigilantefemale vigilante leader known only as Tawa, along with three others, including another woman, was killed in two separate assaults attributed to suspected Fulani militias in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Sabastine Magit, President of the Butura Youth Movement (BYM), confirmed the incidents to Elanza News on Thursday. The attacks, which took place between Tuesday and Wednesday in two villages within the Butura district, also resulted in injuries to two additional individuals.

Magit reported that the victims included two men and two women, who were ambushed and shot in what he described as barbaric and senseless acts of violence. He detailed that the first incident occurred near Maikatako village, followed by another near Butura Kampani village.

“The Butura Youth Movement is profoundly saddened by the recent wave of attacks on peaceful communities in the Butura district of Bokkos Local Government Area,” Magit stated in a communication shared with DAILY POST.

“In the last 24 hours, four of our members, including a dedicated female vigilante leader, have been killed in separate incidents. Tragically, Tawa was attacked and murdered while returning from a mining camp, where she had volunteered to assist government security forces in protecting civilians involved in tin mining. Another woman traveling with her on a motorcycle was also killed, while the motorcycle driver sustained injuries.

“Just one day prior to Tawa’s murder, two young vigilante volunteers were killed and another injured in the vicinity of Maikatako village. This pattern suggests a coordinated effort to render our communities vulnerable,” the youth leader asserted.

He explicitly blamed Fulani herders for the attacks and expressed concern over the failure of security agencies to respond to prior warnings about the planned assaults, which should have prompted heightened patrols and surveillance in the Butura district and surrounding regions.
