Forum Warns Governor Kefas Over Alleged Disloyalty and Political Manipulation by Close Ally

The Kefas Mobilisation Forum For Southern Taraba (KMF-S) has called the attention of Governor Agbu Kefas to what it described as troubling political conduct by a serving member of the House of Representatives from Southern Taraba, warning that the lawmaker may not be acting in the best interest of the governor or the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday through the Forum’s spokesperson, Awudu Matsunde alleged that the federal legislator presents outward loyalty to Governor Kefas while covertly aligning with opposition figures, including a long-time political ally reportedly nursing ambitions for the Taraba governorship.

According to KMF-S the lawmaker is said to be strategically positioned close to the governor to access sensitive political strategies, which are allegedly being shared with political adversaries. The Forum further claimed that the same individual has been assuring the governor of his ability to “handle” political structures ahead of the 2027 elections—an assurance KMF Forum described as misleading and unreliable.

The youth group also raised concerns over alleged fraternization between the lawmaker and two prominent sons of Ichen, both believed to be preparing to challenge Governor Kefas at the polls. TYF claimed the lawmaker would prefer the governor’s defeat if it advances his personal political interests, noting that he expects to benefit politically regardless of which challenger emerges victorious.

According to the Forum, The lawmaker targeted his votes in Donga where one of his long political ally who is nursing for governorship ambition hails from, and can’t hesitate to align with him for the security of political gains in the polls than siding with Gov Kefas whose influence in Donga might not surpass that of his long political benefactor.

The Forum further cautioned Governor Agbu Kefas to remain vigilant, alleging that the individual’s history of political maneuvering—often marked by desperation and intrigue—has consistently cast doubt on his loyalty. According to the Forum, his past actions within his longtime political ally’s camp, particularly his role during the contest against the immediate past governor who reinstated him into political relevance after his failed initial bid for the House of Representatives, have raised serious concerns.

The Forum noted that his emergence, reportedly at the expense of the Takum II House of Assembly ticket holder, has led many political stakeholders in the state to view him as a figure of political betrayal—one perceived as willing to go to extreme lengths, without scruples, to retain power.

“The lawmaker is reportedly losing the confidence of his constituents due to a pattern of self-serving politics, including the empowerment of only close family members,” the statement said. “Rather than address these concerns, he is allegedly resorting to ethnic sentiment and misinformation to regain sympathy.”

The Kefas Mobilisation Forum For Southern Taraba urged Governor Kefas to exercise caution and thoroughly assess the conduct and intentions of those within his political circle, warning that unchecked internal sabotage could undermine both governance and the governor’s future political aspirations.

KMF-S reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful civic engagement and called on all political actors to place the unity, development, and stability of Taraba State above personal ambition.
