FG to build 500 housing units in Kaduna as Sani allocates land

Published

on

The Federal Government has announced plans to construct 500 housing units in Kaduna State, aimed at addressing the housing deficit in Nigeria.
This development was disclosed by the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Oyetunde Ojo, in Kaduna on Tuesday.
Ojo received the Right of Occupancy (RoO) for 157 hectares of land, which was allocated to the FHA by Gov. Uba Sani.
Ojo revealed that the housing project, set to commence before the end of 2024, wouldl be delivered in phases.
“With 157 hectares of land, we can assure the residents of Kaduna that we will build more than 500 housing units in different categories,” he stated.
Ojo explained that the land spans three locations and the plan includes the creation of ‘diaspora cities’.
“Our primary focus is on the people. We will ensure we build massively, aligning with Mr. President’s directive to provide affordable housing for Nigerians,” Ojo added.
He emphasized the importance of patience, noting the progress made since their last visit to Kaduna two months ago.
The managing director expressed gratitude to Sani for ensuring the availability of the land.
“We are about to start the groundbreaking in Kaduna, and in less than a month, you will begin to see the results of this initiative,” he said.
Ojo highlighted the broader scope of the housing projects, stating, “We are planning massive housing projects across Nigeria.
”The Federal Housing Authority, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, and private developers are all contributing.
”Additionally, Ojo mentioned that the Federal Executive Council has recently approved an infrastructural fund, with the FHA set to be a major beneficiary.
“We assure Nigerians that within a year, we will deliver a significant number of housing units.” .
The housing units will be available through a 25-year mortgage, making them affordable for both the formal and informal sectors, especially since the land is being provided free by state governments.
While presenting the land documents to the FHA managingdDirector, Sani reiterated that building affordable housing was a key focus of his administration.
He said that his government had allocated over 1,000 hectares of land to both private and government developers willing to build affordable housing for the people of the state over the past year.
Sani stressed that housing was not a luxury but a necessity and a fundamental human right.
He said, “In Kaduna, we are committed to ensuring that underserved and poor individuals have at least a roof over their heads.”
The governor acknowledged the contributions of organisations like Qatar Charity Foundation, which is building hundreds of houses for the underprivileged in Kaduna for free.
“Their focus on Kaduna is due to the state’s serious commitment to providing affordable housing,” he noted.
Sani expressed confidence in the FHA boss and his team, reaffirming the state government’s support for the project.
He encouraged them to reach out for any assistance required to facilitate the groundbreaking of the project within the next two weeks. (NAN)

Plateau Killings: Locals Collude With Herdsmen To Unleash Mayhem, Says Cleric

Published

on

A prominent Northern Christian cleric, Isa El-Buba, has raised alarm over what he described as an ongoing genocide in Plateau State.

El-Buba alleged that foreign terrorists are colluding with some local herders to violently displace communities and occupy their ancestral lands.

“These are not the local herders that we used to know. These are Fulani terrorists who target communities. When these terrorists come in, they connive with some of the locals.

”They give them information. They come in from outside and they invade,” he said.

Speaking during an appearance on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Friday, a socio-political programme on Channels TV, the cleric strongly supported the recent assertion by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, that the attacks in the state amount to genocide.

The Jos-based cleric, who hails from Borno State, while speaking on the recent killings on the Plateau, argued that the repeated and coordinated nature of the violence indicates a well-orchestrated plan to destabilise the region and ultimately reconfigure its demographic and territorial identity.

“Just like the Governor said: it’s a genocide. It’s not something that just happened. It’s been happening with several attacks in the past and recently, what has happened on the Plateau,” El-Buba said.

“You know very well that Plateau is cosmopolitan. It houses virtually all Nigerians. And if anything goes wrong with Plateau, everything goes wrong with Nigeria.”

He warned that Nigeria’s unity could be in jeopardy if urgent intervention is not undertaken.

“If there is no intervention, there is a bleak future for this country will stand together. We are actually in a very serious time in the history of this country.”

The cleric pointed to the disturbing reality that over 60 communities in Plateau have been attacked, their inhabitants killed or displaced, properties destroyed, and the attackers now living in the conquered communities.

“In some of the communities that were attacked—over 60 of them—the people who attacked those communities displaced the people, killed them, destroyed their properties and now occupy those communities. This tells you a lot about what these people are up to,” he stated.

He further alleged that the attackers feel emboldened due to perceived protection during the previous administration.

“In the past administration, these people felt it was their government. They felt protected. These people move with arms. I raised an alarm, called on the then president to speak to his own people in his own dialect.”

He emphasised that the violence is not being perpetrated by the traditional Fulani herders known to local communities, but by armed, foreign Fulani extremists with a deliberate plan.

According to El-Buba, the goal of these attacks is not random violence, but a larger ideological agenda to seize land and permanently displace the original owners.

“They have a programme, a plan, a mandate, and that mandate is that they must occupy and send the owners of the land away.”

His comments have sparked renewed calls for federal authorities to act decisively to restore peace, justice, and secure land rights in Plateau and other affected regions.

El-Buba concluded with a passionate appeal for national unity and decisive leadership to prevent further bloodshed and protect Nigeria’s fragile cohesion.

Kaduna Has Expanded Access To Tertiary Education — Uba Sani

Published

on

Governor Uba Sani says his administration has improved access to tertiary education in Kaduna State by reducing tuition fees of state-owned tertiary institutions by 50%.

Speaking through his Principal Private Secretary, Professor Bello Ayuba, at the inauguration of the Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter of the Kaduna State Students Union and a public lecture, the Governor stated that the tuition cut has enabled more students from low-income backgrounds to pursue university degrees with greater ease.

Governor Uba Sani expressed gratitude to the students for honouring him with the Sword of Honour Award and acknowledged their recognition of his administration’s developmental strides.

He reassured the students of his government’s continued support, urging them to maintain peace to allow development initiatives to thrive. “Government will continue to support students and the youth generally to realize their ambitions. On your part, make sure that an atmosphere of peace prevails to allow for government’s development programmes to run their full course,” he said.

The Governor advised students not to allow themselves to be used by agents of disunity and chaos, warning that no meaningful development can occur in a climate of unrest and distrust. However, he commended students for being “reliable partners of progress.”

Addressing the issue of security, Uba Sani recalled how parts of the state were under siege due to insecurity, which disrupted farming and business activities. He said the situation has improved considerably through the efforts of security agencies, leading to safer roads, the return of farmers, and the reopening of local markets—including the Birnin Gwari cattle market after a decade-long closure.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure efforts, the Governor said his administration has embarked on over 78 road projects covering 775 kilometers, many of which are rural link roads. He added that General Hospitals are being remodelled and 255 healthcare centres upgraded. Additionally, new schools are being constructed while existing ones are being refurbished to create a better learning environment.

The student union explained that Governor Uba Sani was awarded the Sword of Honour for his commitment to educational development. They praised the tuition reduction and the establishment of new faculties at KASU, including his facilitation of the CBN Intervention Project for the Faculty of Engineering.

They also commended the Governor’s directive allowing students to sit for examinations regardless of outstanding fees, describing it as a gesture of compassion and commitment to inclusive education.

The union concluded that Governor Uba Sani has redefined good governance by prioritizing education, infrastructure, and youth empowerment.
