The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has invited Air Peace Limited following a wave of consumer complaints regarding the airline’s failure to refund fares for cancelled flights.

The summon was conveyed through a statement signed by FCCPC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Ondaje Ijagwu, on Monday.

According to the Commission, Air Peace’s actions may be in violation of Sections 130(1)(a) and (b) and 130(2)(b) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018, which guarantees consumers the right to timely refunds when services paid for in advance were not delivered.

FCCPC noted that these sections of the law protect Nigerians from “unfair, unjust, or unreasonable practices by service-providers.”

In a letter dated June 13, 2025, the FCCPC invoked Sections 32 and 33 of the FCCPA, summoning the airline to appear before the Commission at its Abuja headquarters on Monday, June 23, 2025.

The Commission also directed Air Peace to present a number of documents including a log of all refund-related complaints over the past 12 months, records of processed refunds, a comprehensive list of all cancelled flights within the same period including evidence of any remedial actions taken to reduce consumer hardship resulting from these cancellations.

The Commission warned that failure to comply could result in severe sanctions, including fines and imprisonment, as outlined in Section 33(3) of the Act.
While Air Peace has previously faced scrutiny from the FCCPC, most notably in December 2024, when the Commission began investigating the airline for alleged exploitative ticket pricing, this current summons concerns an entirely separate matter.

“This is an entirely different matter,” the Commission clarified .

“The FCCPC remains committed to enforcing the provisions of the FCCPA (2018), holding service providers accountable, and ensuring that consumers, including airline passengers, are protected from exploitative or unfair market practices.”

Air Peace was yet to respond to the summons as at the time of filing this report.
