The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), through its Intelligence-Driven Patrol of the Iruekpen Unit Command in Edo State, has recovered a vehicle stolen from a church premises in Benin City.

In a statement on Sunday in Abuja, the Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, said the vehicle – registration number RBC 987 CM – was reported stolen earlier that day. Acting on a distress call, the patrol team activated its intelligence and surveillance network, monitoring major routes within its operational corridor.

“Through a combination of vigilance, professionalism and effective patrol coordination, the vehicle was subsequently sighted and intercepted,” Mr Ohaeri said.

The suspect found in possession of the vehicle claimed to be a delivery agent. However, following preliminary investigations, he was apprehended and handed over to the police for further interrogation. The recovered vehicle has been secured pending identification and handover to its rightful owner.

Mr Ohaeri noted that the successful recovery highlights the growing impact of FRSC patrol operations in crime reduction. Beyond traffic management and road safety enforcement, FRSC patrol teams serve as vital eyes and ears on the highways, contributing to the detection of stolen vehicles, apprehension of criminal suspects, rescue of crash victims, and provision of timely intelligence to security agencies.

“This proactive approach continues to strengthen public safety, deter criminal activities, and enhance confidence in the nation’s road transportation system,” he said.

He encouraged motorists and citizens to promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies through the FRSC’s established communication channels.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the swift response of the patrol and its personnel, stating that the recovery underscores the critical role of FRSC patrol operations in ensuring safer roads and supporting national security through intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.
