Hope Builders Nigeria has called for a comprehensive investigation into reports linking Senator Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara State, to an alleged ₦4 billion gold scandal reportedly under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The group said the allegations, which followed reports that gold bars worth about ₦4 billion were intercepted at Kano Airport, had raised serious public concerns and must be handled transparently.

In a statement issued by its Secretary, Sabi’u Ibrahim Kano, the organisation stressed that Nigerians deserved the truth and urged anti-graft agencies to pursue the matter without fear or favour.

“The Nigerian people deserve facts, not rumours, and justice, not selective accountability. Allegations of this magnitude cannot be ignored or quietly swept aside. They must be investigated thoroughly and professionally,” the statement said.

Hope Builders noted that while Senator Yari, who currently represents Zamfara West Senatorial District, remains innocent until proven guilty, the allegations require a diligent and impartial probe.

It argued that the credibility of Nigeria’s anti-corruption institutions depends on their willingness to investigate powerful individuals with the same commitment applied to ordinary citizens.

“The fight against corruption loses all meaning when powerful individuals are treated differently from ordinary citizens. The law must remain blind to status, wealth and political influence,” Ibrahim said.

The organisation urged the EFCC and other security agencies to scrutinise every financial trail, communication record, business transaction and the roles of any individuals connected to the case.

It also warned against attempts to politicise or frustrate the investigation.

“No amount of influence should be allowed to obstruct justice. If there is evidence, let it be presented. If there is innocence, let it be established. But under no circumstance should this case disappear into silence,” the group stated.

According to Hope Builders Nigeria, corruption remains one of the major obstacles to national development, depriving citizens of access to quality healthcare, education, infrastructure and economic opportunities.

“Every stolen resource represents a classroom never built, a hospital never equipped, a road never completed, and a family left behind. Corruption is not a victimless crime. It steals from every Nigerian,” the statement added.

The group further maintained that if investigations establish criminal responsibility against Senator Yari or any other person connected to the matter, prosecution should follow in accordance with due process.

It also called on institutions responsible for administering justice to ensure fairness, transparency and independence in handling any proceedings arising from the investigation.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability and national integrity, Hope Builders Nigeria said the country could not build a prosperous future on a foundation of impunity.

“The time has come for institutions to prove that the rule of law is stronger than political influence and that public office is a responsibility, not a licence for personal enrichment. The nation is watching, and history will remember those who stood for justice,” the statement said.
