Dino Melaye, the former Senator for Kogi West, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing its failure to offer effective leadership and governance to Nigerians.
In a resignation letter posted on his official X account on Thursday, dated July 4, 2025, and directed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye declared his immediate withdrawal from all party activities.
“I hereby submit my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement.
“This decision has become necessary due to the party’s lack of potency and capability to rescue the Nigerian populace from the ongoing political crises that have deeply affected our nation,” the letter stated.
Melaye, who was the PDP’s candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, made this decision after careful consideration of the party’s current situation and direction.
“Having thoughtfully reflected on the party’s condition, I can no longer, in good conscience, engage in its activities or support its agenda,” the letter continued.
He also requested that his resignation be regarded as a complete and formal withdrawal from all party structures.
“Therefore, please consider this as my official withdrawal from the party and all its activities with immediate effect,” the letter added.
In closing, Melaye expressed his gratitude for the chance to serve under the party’s banner during his membership.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve under this platform during my time as a member,” the letter concluded.
