AM2G urges Nigerians to demand accountability from their leaders amidst a democracy in crisis, citing recent events in the National Assembly as evidence of a failing state.

The Arewa Movement for Good Governance (AM2G) is calling on Nigerians to raise their voices and demand accountability from their leaders amidst growing concerns over the state of the nation’s democracy.

In a recent press conference, the convener of AM2G, Usman Bugaje, referenced Edward Snowden’s famous quote: “When exposing a crime is treated as committing a crime.

You are being ruled by criminals.” Bugaje highlighted the failures of the National Assembly and the crisis within Nigeria’s democracy, urging citizens to take action.

Bugaje pointed out recent events in the National Assembly, including the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi and the removal of Senator Kawu Sumaila, as indicative of a worrying trend.

These actions, coupled with allegations of budget padding and legislative looting, paint a grim picture of Nigeria’s governance.

The developments in the National Assembly are unfolding against the backdrop of a Nigerian state that has failed to fulfill its constitutional mandate.

The constitution guarantees the security and welfare of Nigerian citizens, yet the leadership’s complicity in stifling public debate and silencing dissenting voices is evident.

The true victims of this crisis are the ordinary Nigerians, especially the impoverished and marginalized.

They struggle to survive with no hope for improvement while allegations of corruption and mismanagement plague the country’s leadership.

At the presentation of the 2024 budget, allegations surfaced that the budget box was empty and that members were bribed to approve it.

Despite verbal dismissals, these allegations remain unanswered, further eroding trust in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
