Army: 177 Battalion Guards Keffi, Empowers Over 150 Youths With Different Skills Acquisition

Over one hundred and fifty youths of Shittu Alao Barracks Keffi, have benefitted from the Commanding Officer’s skills acquisition programme.

The Commanding Officer of the 177 Guards Battalion, Keffi, Colonel A.B Inuwa, announced this during the second phase of the graduation ceremony and presentation of certificates to the beneficiaries, which took place at the barracks in Keffi.

Presenting certificates and equipment to the beneficiaries of the skills acquisition programme, the Commanding Officer of the 177 Guards Battalion Keffi, Colonel A. B Inuwa, represented by his second in Command, Major M.A Sani, said the skills acquisition program was primarily designed to empower youths of the barracks to make them self reliant.

Major Sani, explained that the youths were trained in different skills ranging from catering, barbing, cosmetology, hair dressing, and ICT, saying eighty-four of them graduated from the first batch while seventy-four took part in the second batch, totalling one hundred and fifty-eight, who were also given starter packs to start their business.

Also speaking, the wife of the Commander, Guards Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Mrs. Adenike Onasanya, represented by Mrs. Nafisah Bello, and Chairperson, Keffi Area Representative of the Nigerian Army officers’ Wives Association, Mrs. Alitumo Chinenye, commended the Commanding Officer, Shittu Alao Barracks for the empowerment program, saying it would go a long way in tackling unemployment and generating wealth among youths at the barracks.

The Coordinator and Supervisor of the empowerment programme, Maryam Abdulrasheed, said the three months training, centered on equipping beneficiaries with requisite knowledge on how to build their future, urging them to make judious use of the starter packs and the knowledge acquired.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Fatima Yahaya, thanked the 177 Guards Battalion for the gesture and their facilitators, promising not to disappoint them.
