The Arewa Youths for Peace and Security organization has expressed their concerns to the Osun State Police Command regarding the need for a thorough investigation before drawing any conclusion.
They emphasize the importance of obtaining accurate information from suspects, considering the possibility that their statements may have been coerced.
Comrade Salihu Dantata Mahmud, a renowned security analyst and the Director of Security Salute Nigeria Initiative, shared his insights on this matter. He highlighted that one of the serial killers apprehended in connection with the abductions and killings in Ilesha, Osun State, made an allegation against Hon. Sanya Omirin, the current House of Representatives member representing Ijesa South Federal Constituency.
Mahmud points out that confessions made by suspects can sometimes be unreliable, as they may be made under duress or with the intent to secure a more favorable outcome. Through a secret investigation he conducted, Mahmud discovered that the suspect’s statement, which was given in Yoruba, differs from the information provided by the police.
He expresses his concern that an opposition member might be involved in influencing the police’s narrative, considering the political dynamics in Osun State. As the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) holds all the elective offices in the state, he suggests that the possibility of opposition foul play should not be overlooked.
Mahmud calls for the intervention of the Inspector General of Police to ensure transparency in the case. He emphasizes that when the suspect’s actual confession contradicts the information provided by the police, it raises serious questions about compromised investigation and poor policing standards.
